2007-12-06LPD eNews: Lasser Data Online

Dear eNewsletter Subscriber,

During the past several months we have been working to create a new website to allow online access to our Oil and Gas Production Data. This new website can be used alone or as a compliment to our CD/DVD-ROM service. In the first quarter of 2008 we plan to launch this website for general use. As with our CD/DVD-ROM product our primary goals are to deliver high quality data that is very affordable and to create a system that is easy to use.

Initially we plan to have our Texas, Oklahoma/Kansas, New Mexico, and Louisiana data available by the time we launch the website, with the remaining areas coming shortly thereafter. With this new website there will be a small monthly fee to maintain your account, then you pay for only the header or production data that you need. As with our CD/DVD-ROM product once you have purchased data for one or more leases you will have access to a variety of reports, graphs, exports, online mapping, and other features.

We are excited to announce that for a limited time we are offering our newsletter recipients the opportunity to Beta test our new website. Beta Testers will have access to our system at no charge - provided you are willing to give feedback to us regarding errors that you may receive as well as suggestions on how to make the site even friendlier. This is a limited offer and only the first 50 people will be accepted. If you wish to be a beta tester you must be one of the first 50 people to visit http://www.lasserdata.com and sign up for a membership by 12/15/07. You will need to enter the code B237 in the Optional Code field on the Member Sign Up sheet.

Important: By becoming a Beta Tester you are agreeing that this website is in ongoing development, both the software and the hardware, so we are not making any guarantees about uptime or data reliability. Even though you will be prompted to Purchase Data after each search you will not incur any fees while beta testing. You may, from time to time, receive a test or sample invoice, but again there are no fees due while we are testing. We ask that you compare any reports to our CD/DVD-ROM product (or any other source for Texas data) and report any anomalies you may find.

Currently only our Texas database is online with a large number of search options, and information pages for lease data, production, disposition, well data, and more. In the coming weeks and months you will see the addition of exports, graphs and reports, and of course additional databases.

All data searches are saved, like LPD projects, in the user "Purchase Library" available under My Account settings. All technical support will be done by email to the developer (helpdesk@lasser.com). Lasser Tech Support will not answer support questions for the new website. Beta Testers must agree that we can and probably will send you email requesting feedback. During the beta test period from time to time it may be necessary to reset your account settings. When the website is deployed for public release your Beta account will be removed and you will have to sign up again at which time you will begin to incur monthly charges.

We hope you take this opportunity to help us create the ideal online website for the Petroleum Industry.

2007-03-14LPD eNews: Oklahoma/Kansas move to DVD-ROM Our Oklahoma/Kansas database has steadily grown as we’ve added information such as
the Corporation Commission database, and increased the amount of information available
for both Oklahoma and Kansas.

As a consequence we are no longer going to be able to fit the Oklahoma/Kansas database
onto a single CD-ROM. Instead we are going to begin producing the Oklahoma/Kansas
database on DVD-ROM.

Most of our clients have already migrated to computers with DVD-ROM drives, or have
added DVD-ROM drives to their existing computers. If you do not have a DVD-ROM
drive please call us because for a limited time we will produce both a DVD-ROM version
and a CD-ROM version of the database disk. The CD-ROM version will exclude the
Corporation Commission database to ensure that the Oklahoma Tax Commission and
Kansas data will fit on the disk.

2006-06-05LPD eNews: 2007 Price Increase

Since 1999 we have added many exciting new program features, expanded our website, added additional databases, and increased the data items available in our databases. As a quick recap, we have updated the LPD program so that you can use date ranges, added the ability to import text files (and save the import as part of a project), added many new grid style file items, created the Quick Look Eco report, added the Operator Report, included the ability to make Operator and Reservoir Summaries, created a Copy to Excel feature, as well as many other enhancements.

Since 2001 we introduced the Oklahoma/Kansas, Rocky Mountain, West Coast, and Southeastern databases, and are working on Northeastern regions. Additionally we have added historical Wyoming production, historical Texas production, monthly API updates and Well Completion Histories to the Texas database, and Latitude and Longitudes and Dry Holes to most databases. We’ve also included value added services (no additional cost to customers) such as a well permit service for monthly customers, and Texas Comptroller data on our website for any LPD customer.

Currently we are working to add historical production data for Louisiana, and will soon begin the task of finding and adding historical Oklahoma data. In addition to the previously mentioned changes, we are now working on a new release of LPD that will include a monthly Gas Disposition Report, Historical Operators for Leases in Texas, and we are adding a function that will let you get a list of wells within a user defined distance of a selected lease/well. With the new version, due for release in September 2006, we are integrating the ability to create maps using Microsoft MapPoint, Google Maps, and others from the main grid.

Beginning January 1st, 2007 we will increase all customer invoices by 10%. This will be the first price increase for existing users since 1999, which is when we introduced LPD for Windows. We will mail out a reminder notice to all customers towards the end of the year. Current prices will remain the same until December 31, 2006 so if you want to renew or expand your subscription at the current rates, please give us a call prior to that date.

As you can see, this small increase helps to cover the expenses of these enhancements, updates, and new features, which keeps our service the best Oil & Gas production data service available.

2006-05-18LPD eNews: LPD Program Updates

Lasser has created a new SETUP program which is available on all new database disks shipped after 5/1/2006 or from our website http://www.lasser.com/file%20downloads/setup.exe. The following updates are the main changes to the setup program:

  • Updated the "Export to Excel" function to improve the data format once the data is inserted into the Excel Spreadsheet.
  • Updated the exports so that "TAB", "SPACE", and "NONE" delimited export files have a default extension of .TXT. Also "QUOTE AND COMMA" delimited files have a default extension of .CSV.
  • We added the PTX and DPCA exports so they are available by default.
  • Now we are using a newer version of Install Shield which should improve the installation on Windows XP computers.
  • Windows XPs service pack 2 security enhancements caused Windows XP to prohibit opening "CHM help files" across a network (which is what our program uses). The new setup program now installs the LPD Help file into the local "Windows" directory on the local machine so that people who use the program in a network environment will be able to read the help file. *** NOTE *** If you are using LPD on a network, your administrator will need update both the LPD PROGRAM FOLDER on the server using the SERVER option during setup and he or she will need to update all workstations using the NETWORK CLIENT option from the new setup file.
2006-01-10LPD eNews: New Export and Updated Eco Report

The new LPD setup program, available on our website or any disk mailed after 1/10/06,  includes the new PTX Export, the DPCA (Ogre) Exports, and an updated version of our LPD Quick Look Economics Report. We recommend updating your installation of LPD by either downloading and installing the new version from our website, or by clicking SETUP LPD when you insert your newer disk.

The PTX Export allows you to export data from LPD to a PTX format which some 3rd party economic applications use. By default the name of the exported file will be "PTX Export.TXT" but you should rename the 3 letter file extension from .TXT to .PTX. For example, after you add the export, in the FILENAME section of the export window, change the name from "PTX Export.TXT" to something like "myfile.ptx" or "default.ptx".

For some time we have offered an OGRE compatible export which our users had to add into the LPD directory, if they wanted to use this export format. With the new setup these export options are included without the need to add them in separately. If you use the more recent versions of the OGRE program you will need to use the "DPCA (Update/Insert) DBI" export option and change the export filename to something similar to "default.dmp". We recommend creating a new OGRE project before importing the data from LPD. Also, prior to importing our data, you should import the file called "DBI_MASK.DMP", which is located in the LPD program folder, in order to setup the OGRE masks that will match the file format.

We have modified our LPD Quick Look Economics Report so that it can do projections on leases or wells that are not active. If you right-click on the report and choose Properties, you should see a new option called "Forecast Active Wells Only" that is checked be default. In order to allow the program to create projections for inactive entries, you will need to uncheck this option, then click SAVE.

As always if you need help installing the new setup or have questions regarding these changes, please call 800.489.3282 and ask for support.

2005-11-17LPD eNews: Updated Auto Run Screen

Beginning with all database disks being shipped after November 1, 2005 we have made changes to our “Auto Run Screen”. For those of you, who do not know, this is the screen that appears when you insert a disk into the CD/DVD drive.

We have added a “Copy Database” button which can be used to copy the database from the disk to a local hard drive or network drive. By copying the database to a hard drive, your data searches will be much faster. The CD/DVD can then be stored to prevent accidental damage from inserting and removing the CD/DVD disk. When you choose to use the "Copy Database" button, the program will have a default location of "C:DATABASE". A browse button is provided for you to use if you wish to change the target location where you want the database to be copied. The “Auto Run Screen” will store the location of each LPD database disk separately. This allows the users who subscribe to multiple databases to either store all databases in the same folder, or store each database in a separate folder. The “Auto Run Screen” can not be disabled. We have made this change because the “Auto Run” will now check the database location on your hard drive or network location anytime the disk is inserted and prompt the user to update the database if it determines the disk has a newer database than the hard drive or network location.

After you copy the database to a hard drive or a network drive, you should start the LPD program without the CD/DVD disk in the drive. When you attempt to open an LPD project you will get a message similar to "The database D:DATABASETX.DB does not exist. Do you want to select the LPD database to use?”. At this point you will need to click the "YES" button in order to select the location of the database. You will then need to browse to the folder where you chose to copy the database into and double-click the database name. If you need help, please call 800.489.3282 and ask for support.

2005-10-27LPD eNews: New PTX Export Available

We have recently added support for 3rd party programs that can import .PTX files. Lasser will continue to work with and improve upon this export format, which will help ensure that our database applications are compatible with all major economic/forecasting software packages available today. If you know of any other application(s) for which you would like to see an LPD export, please let us know.

Currently this export is in a "beta testing" phase. This means that the export has been tested but it may need to undergo changes to improve the export before its final release. We request that anyone who uses the export send us your feedback so that we can attempt to correct any issues that may exist, but that we currently are unaware of. If any such issue arises, we will attempt to correct the issue then send you the corrected file for testing. This process will ensure the export is as stable and accurate as the rest of the LPD service. Once this format is finalized we will add it as a regular part of our setup program. If you are interested in using this format please follow the instructions below.

To install this new export option you will need to exit the LPD program and download the zipped export file from our website - then extract the file to your LPD program folder. If your computer does not have any software installed that can UNZIP files, you may need to search the internet for such a program. Many ZIP/UNZIP programs can be downloaded and used at little or no charge. Click here to download the zipped export file. You can also visit www.lasser.com then click on "File Downloads" on the menu option, and then click on "PTXExport.zip". When prompted we recommend choosing the option to "Open" the file. Once the zip window is open you will see a file called "PTXExport.dll". You will need to click on the option to "Extract" the contents of the zipped file. At this point you will need to browse to the folder where LPD is installed (on a standard installation this is usually C:LPD). If your LPD program is installed on a server we recommend that talk to your administrator for assistance.

If you would like assistance downloading and adding this export please call 800.489.3282 and ask for support.

2005-10-13LPD eNews: Texas Historical Data Project Completed

Our Texas historical database project has now drawn to a conclusion. Beginning with the July 2005 Update of Texas (shipped on 9/23/2005), all of the historical data that we were able to add from the Texas Railroad Commission microfiche has been added to the LPD system. This includes data in all Texas Railroad Commission districts. We were also able to add many lease records that existed prior to 1970 that were not already a part of our data set. We are very happy with the outcome of this project, and hope that those who use our Texas database appreciate and can make use of this addition.

Statewide the Texas production for oil should date back to around 1955 and gas back to about 1960. Unfortunately this information still does not date to inception for many older leases which is due, in part, to a lack production information and/or tracking methods for production prior to the 1960s. There may also be cases where the Railroad Commission records were incomplete causing some data to not be available. We have electronically tied as much data together as possible to ensure our database is as complete as possible. We will continue looking at the information from the Railroad Commission to try and determine if there are other methods we can use to find additional matching data.

Now we are moving on to a similar project in Louisiana. Preliminary studies indicate we may be able to add production in Louisiana dating back to around 1962.

2005-09-09LPD eNews: New LPD Subtotal Feature

The LPD program has recently been updated with a new "Subtotal" feature. To access this feature you must update the LPD program by running the setup program from any LPD Database update or release mailed after 9/09/2005. After updating LPD you will have a new "Subtotal" item listed on your LPD toolbar that you can access after the main grid is loaded with information. If you are not scheduled to receive any updates in September or if you do not want to wait for the update, you can download the latest setup program from our website - http://www.lasser.com. Once there select "Downloads" from the menu then click on "Setup.exe". You can choose to "open" or "run" the Setup.exe file if you want to run the update immediately, or you can choose to "save" the file to your desktop if you wish to install it later.

This new feature allows you to get a subtotal of the entries in the main grid. You can choose to subtotal by Operator, Field, or Reservoir. After the Subtotal report is displayed you can then sort the list, print the list, change the view to be a "grid" or back to the list view,  or even copy the data to the clipboard (so that it can be pasted into other applications such as Excel). Now you can quickly and easily find out who the top producers are in a particular area of interest by choosing to subtotal by operator, then sorting the resulting list by "Last 12 Gas" descending - this puts the largest volumes on top. If you want to see the top producing fields in a county, you can search for and load a county, then subtotal by "Field Name" to get the data you need. Remember this new feature works on all of the items listed in the grid!

With this new update we have also enhanced the "Copy to Excel" function on the main grid. Now when you choose to copy to Excel by clicking the Excel button on the toolbar, the main grid items are copied into Excel according to data type - either general text or numeric. This is an upgrade over any version of LPD that shipped before 9/09/2005. The older version of LPD copies all items to Excel as general text thereby causing issues when trying to add or summarize information in Excel.

2005-08-18New LPD eNewsletter Service

We would like to inform you of the addition of our eNewsletter service.

This service will allow us to email our users with important information regarding program updates, database enhancements, and LPD company news. You can view previously sent newsletters on our web site http://www.lasser.com/news.

Soon we will send a recap of some of the enhancements that we have added to the LPD program over the past few months so that those who subscribe will be able to get caught up on all of the new functions and data items that are available. Also we will mention the "value added" services that you may be entitled to, which in turn ensures that you are getting the most out of your LPD for Windows subscriptions.

We hope that you find this service to be useful. Please let us know if there are any other services which we may add to better serve you.

2005-03-15March 2005 News - Recap/Texas Comptroller Data Access

We are continually updating and enhancing the services that we offer our clients, so I wanted to take a few minutes and list for you some of the database enhancements and additional services that we have made available over the course of the past year. We hope that you will find many of the features and services useful, and would like to hear from you if you have any suggestions and ideas for future updates. To get the latest version of the LPD software we recommend updating your LPD software by running SETUP from the enclosed disk.

The main program enhancement is the addition of a “single-click” copy to Excel function that will allow you to copy the main grid list to an Excel spreadsheet with just a click of the mouse. Other enhancements include the ability of the main grid to display newly included database items.

In addition to the new production through the year end 2004, we have added “Pre-1970” gas and oil production for Districts 8, 8A, 10, and 01, and “Pre-1970” gas production in Districts 04 and 06.

Our database has been updated to include all of the dry holes in Texas, in addition to the producing wells. Most of the wells also now have a surface LAT/LON, bottom LAT/LON, and an indicator for vertical, horizontal, or directional (new items that can be added to the main grid).

We have added a new report within the program called “Well History Report” that will display (by well) the well completion information such as comments, the casing size, liner size, tubing size, elevation, cement amounts, perforations by completion, and formation tops.

Our LPD subscribers can also sign up for and use (at no charge) a service on our website that allows the user to see how much gas was bought and sold for leases in Texas, as well as the price. The report shows the last 24 months, and has both a Buyer and Seller listing.

Monthly subscribers to any LPD database also are eligible to get free access to a well permit service offered through an affiliated company - WellActivity.com. Please call us at (800)489-3282 if you are interested in this service.

2004-11-15November 2004 News - Added copy to Excel button

Have you ever needed or wanted to copy our main grid data into Microsoft Excel? We now have made it easier than ever! Once your main grid is loaded, you can click on ‘Data’ on the menu bar, then choose ‘Copy to Microsoft Excel’ or just click on the new button on the toolbar. That is it. If you have Microsoft Excel installed LPD will select the data on the grid and create an Excel spreadsheet keeping your sort order and even a summary row! The spreadsheet will include your selected rows or the entire grid if nothing is selected. To add this new feature you must update LPD by running setup. If you have a network installation of LPD, please talk to your administrator prior to installing, or call us for help.

Now accepting Credit Cards! Beginning in October 2004 we are now accepting MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express. Please call (800)489-3282 if you wish to make a payment by credit card. 2004-06-15June 2004 News - Improved Well Histroy database

The “Well History” database recently included with the Texas LPD database has been renamed from WELLS.DB to WELLS.TX. We’ve done this as the first step in adding the cement and formation top information for our other databases. You must update the Well History Report in order to get the data from this new database name. Reinstalling LPD from the current disk will properly update the report file.

We are now going to begin adding additional well information such as cement and formation tops for as many of our other databases as possible. The Oklahoma information is currently being processed and should be available to users in the July 2004 Oklahoma release.

Our website, www.lasser.com, has recently been updated to make it easier to read. We’ve also added the “Top 100 OIL Operators”, “Top 100 GAS Operators”, as well as “Production by District” for New Mexico and for Oklahoma to our data pages (www.lasser.com/data). This information will be updated monthly.

Beginning with the February 2004 Texas DVD, PRE 1970 production data is NOW AVAILABLE for districts 08, 08A, 01, and 10. Other districts are soon to follow, with completion of this project scheduled by the end 2005. As of right now we are going to include the PRE 1970 data AT NO CHARGE, for a limited time. Our sincere hope is that this additional data will generate enough new revenue that we will be able to include this information on an ongoing basis without any additional charges. Please tell a friend about Lasser’s LPD Texas product!

We are now able to create and deliver digital mapping information or hard copy maps for the state of Texas. The digital data can be viewed using the Free MapInfo ProViewer v7.0 available from www.mapinfo.com. If you would like more information please call us at (800)654-7316 and ask to speak with Bobby Cleveland.

2004-05-15May 2005 News - Recap of previous news

This month we are simply recapping some recent changes to the Texas database to benefit the semi-annual and quarterly Texas LPD customers.

The past few months have had this newsletter focusing a lot on the Texas LPD database enhancements. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation, understanding, and patience while we’ve moved the database from CDROM to DVDROM, which has allowed us the flexibility to increase the value of the Texas LPD service.

This month, we are announcing that beginning with the February 2004 Texas DVD, PRE 1970 production data is NOW AVAILABLE for districts 08, 08A, 01, and 10. Please tell a friend about Lasser’s LPD Texas product - referrals are greatly appreciated and help keep the costs low for everyone.

The “Well History” database that we recently included with the Texas LPD database has now been updated to include Tubing and Liner information in addition to the Casing information that is already available. If you experience any issues or have any suggestions/comments about the report please email support@lasser.com or give us a call at (800)489-3282. If you do not already have access to this report, you will need to reinstall LPD from the new DVD. Choose “Setup LPD” from the autorun screen to begin.

2004-03-15March 2004 News - Shipping Texas History database

The move to DVD has allowed us to bring to you our latest data offering for the Texas database – Well History. This is a brand new database that includes items such as elevation, formation tops, pipe type/diameter, and hole size. Additionally this database offers a list of well completions showing items such as perfs, lease number (LPDID), and completion remarks. Note: This new database must be located in the same directory as the TX.DB file (currently in the DATABASE folder on the DVD).

In order to make use of this new report, you must update the LPD program using the setup program on this disk or from our website: http://www.lasser.com/support. If you have a “Network Server” installation of LPD you will need to update the program folder on your server. The client workstations will not need to be updated.

This information is well specific and is available as a new report in the Detail Window. From the “Detail Window” click on FILE, select SETUP, then add the “Well History” report. Currently this report will view one well at a time. You must right-click on the report and choose “Properties’ to change to a different API number.

This report and database will be changing in the coming months, as we add more information (such as plugging information) to make the database more complete, and make the report more flexible –such as printing for multiple wells. If you experience any issues or have any suggestions/comments about the report please email support@lasser.com or give us a call at (800)489-3282.

Lasser, Inc. has enacted a policy change that eliminates the need for you to return your older disks - simply dispose of your older disk when the new one arrives. In the event that your LPD service is terminated you will still be required to return your last disk to us as outlined in the License Agreement.

2004-02-15February 2004 News - Watch for new items coming soon

This month we have added 3 additional “depth” items. If you want use of these items, you must update the LPD program by running SETUP from this disk. You will not need to update the Crypkey license files.

These items are very useful when reviewing multiple well leases in the main grid. These new items are Minimum Depth, Maximum Depth, and Average Depth for the wells on the lease. The new items can be added to the main grid by using the StyleMaker program; they are listed as depth_avg, depth_max, and depth_min.

Have you ever had the need to compare two or more different annual production volumes, and wished the LPD main grid had such items? Good news! We added two new style file items - GAS_ANNUAL and OIL_ANNUAL – that will use the precision column as a date identifier to do just that! Simply add the GAS or OIL ANNUAL item to the grid one more time, then change the “Precision” column to be the YEAR that you would like to see the annual cum for (example 1993 for the year 1993 or 1994 for the year 1994), and then name the column title accordingly. It is that simple.

Lasser, Inc. is enacting a policy change that eliminates the need for you to return your older disks. As such we will stop sending the return address disk mailers with each disk. Beginning in December 2003 you can simply dispose of your older disk when the new one arrives. We do recommend recycling the disks if at all possible. In the event that your LPD service is terminated you will still be required to return your last disk, and to provide proof of program deactivation to us as outlined in the License Agreement.

COMING VERY SOON: Well History – we are working to add a database for Texas wells that will give the user a look at the number of completions a well has had, remarks, depths, and more for all of the wells in the State of Texas. We will also soon be including production data prior to 1970. This will be an ongoing project that should be completed by the end of 2005.

If you are interested in taking a trial of the Southeastern U.S. database when it is available, please call our sales staff at (800)654-7316 and mention you would like to try the Southeast U.S. database. Initially Arkansas and Mississippi data will be included with other states being added as data becomes available.

One of our goals now that we’ve moved Texas to DVD-ROM is to enhance the database. With this in mind starting with August 2003, the database has been updated to include DRY HOLES and Latitude and Longitude for wells. The Lat/Long can be added to the main grid, exported as ASCII text by well, displays on many reports (single well leases only), and is already a part of the LPD DATA DUMP V2.

Our programmers have begun the task of building a new database covering the Southeastern U.S. This database will initially be built with Alabama, Arkansas, and Mississippi data. The database should be ready for evaluation in January 2004. If you are interested in taking a trial of the database when it is available, please call our sales staff at (800)654-7316 and mention you would like to try the Southeast U.S. database. We’ll keep you notified of the progress and send you the disk when it is ready.

Some recent changes to LPD may require a program update. If you experience any unusual program behavior or strange data when exporting, please reinstall LPD from the current disk or from our website. Feel free to call support at (800)489-3282 if you require or would like further assistance. It is a good idea to update LPD from time to time even if no major updates are announced.

With this in mind starting with August 2003, the database has been updated to include DRY HOLES and Latitude and Longitude for wells. For single well leases, you will be able to see the Latitude and Longitude on the One Page Summary Report. The Lat/Long can also be added to the main grid. Multi well leases will only display the first Lat/Long in the main grid and currently will not show at all on the reports. These items can also be exported by creating a well export style file that includes Lat/Long. Soon we’ll also be including well completion histories for wells in Texas.

2003-11-15November 2003 News - Added LAT/LONG in Texas

We’ve recently moved the database on the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM from a directory called LPD (on the disk) to a directory called DATABASE. When you open the “Default Project” or any existing project you will receive a message that “X:LPD*.DB” does not exist” (where X: is your DVD-ROM or CD-ROM drive containing the Lasser disk). Select “YES” to browse for the database location. Change to your DVD-ROM or CD-ROM drive and select the DATABASE folder. Once you’ve selected the database, click on OPEN and you will be asked if you want to save the database location. Click on “YES” and you will not be asked again next time the project is opened.

The LPD DATA DUMP V2 has been updated so that LAT/LONG is exported properly. Additionally, we’ve made other minor changes to LPD; you should update LPD using the SETUP that is on the enclosed disk, or by downloading the SETUP from our website. Updating LPD will NOT require a new license code. Please call if you need or want help with this process or have any questions, comments, or suggestions.

Our New Mexico database now has the great majority of pre 1993 production entries “merged” with post 1993 production. The Rocky Mountain Database is now ready for shipping. Currently it contains production data for Utah, Wyoming, North and South Dakota, Colorado (1999 – current by well), Montana, and Arizona. We’ve also begun work on creating a Southeast U.S. database that will initially contain Alabama, Arkansas, and Mississippi production data.
